What about using muriatic acid on the metal to remove zinc. After the removal, you watch it off with baking soda and rinse thoroughly. Is it safe to weld directly after the washing processes?

NO! POLARIZED does UV in one direction from the sun, and welding does light in many directions. something. I was told in some science review.

An this is where my harbor freight welder shows it's weakness. As surprisingly well as it does. It has a delay between pulling the trigger an wire feed. Makes this a bit more challenging.

Only thing is acetone is highly flammable something you really don’t want around your weld shop. Probably a pressure wash would be best!

My grandpa died from welding for years. His lungs were damaged. He grew tired. Loss appetite. Sleeping alot. We took him to the ER and they admitted him. He was put in ICU and was placed on a ventilator as his lungs were filled with water. Almost at collapse. The doctor said nothing could be done. Make him comfortable. As the machine was working as his lungs. The doctors said it was due years life long of welding. Fumes destroyed his lungs overtime.

Certified welder here, your amperage is your wire speed. The voltage, is voltage pressure. The voltage is what makes the arc jump the gap, the higher, the voltage, the more pressure, pushing the arc across the gap. This is why when your voltage is turned up it looks like you get a hotter weld because the ark is impacting the weld pool, harder, therefore flattening it out. The wire speed is your amperage! It’s too bad for the welding trade that so many people think the voltage is your heat. Look up videos on electrical voltage pressure and you will see I’m right. You can thank me later I’ve been watching UA-cam videos for over 15 years seeing everyone not understand this. Watching your video you seemed like such a nice guy. I broke my silence I said to myself this guy deserves to know the truth.Lol.

The UV and IR protection is always there, the darkening is just to stop the brightness. Get into a habit of timing a regular eye blink just as you are about to strike the arc. The auto darkening takes about 1/30,000 of a second…a long blink is like 1/4 second, this will stop ANY un-dimmed arc light reaching your eyes. More problematic is flashing, where the lens momentarily un-dims allowing full brightness arc to reach you. Flashing is not supposed to occur, but still does anyways.

A BIG BLACK EYE FOR HARBOR FREIGHT I have a Harbor freight TITANIUM FLUX 125 WELDER purchased from Harbor Freight a couple years ago. I am a retired plumbing contractor and backyard hobbyist. I love to build things in my spare time and help friends and neighbors that need something repaired. When I retired and closed my business, I had a stick welding machine but had no convenient place to connect it at my home! It would require an upgrade to my electrical service not worth the trouble and expense! When I saw a couple reviews on UA-cam for this Titanium 125 welder, I thought that would be the way to go. I already had a 110 Volt 30 Amp circuit to my workshop! It took me a while to get adjusted to the flux wire welding. I built a minibike from scrap pipe I had left over from the plumbing shop. The welder allowed me to make other things and make repairs for others I wouldn’t be able to do without it. In the middle of my last project, I cut a couple pieces of metal and got ready to weld them and when I pushed the button on the welder, nothing happened! It was dead! The fan did not come on but the light on the ON/OFF indicated there was power to the welder. I checked the manual for a reset button or a fuse and found no mention of either. So, I called the Harbor Freight 800 number and was told there was no repair for this welder. Harbor Freight has no repair facility, and no support is available. I was told by two different tech reps there is no schematics or parts list available from the factory where this is manufactured. “It is not worth getting it repaired and cheaper to go purchase a new one!” If you purchase this welder or many other things from Harbor Freight You only have 3 Months Warranty. It is considered disposable after that! All the reviews and discussion I have read about HARBOR FREIGHT I have never seen anything about their total lack of support for their products! I didn’t even get an “I’m sorry” or any offer for a discount on a new welding machine! I am retired, was an electronics technician in the Navy, active Ham Radio operator and electronics hobbyist. I feel like the electronics in this welding machine is straight forward non computer controlled and any decent electronics tech should be able to repair this given reasonable support. I removed the circuit board from the welder and found where a small component burned of course not knowing the component value or purpose will make it difficult to replace. Providing a schematic and parts list is a very inexpensive form of support that should be a minimum requirement. Their claim to revenue of 7 Billion Dollars tells me they could afford it!

    • @andybub45

Still sounds like you got good use out of it, did you really expect one that inexpensive to last forever and have parts available???

when i was taking SMAW welding certification the instructor made it very clear that if that voltage or electricity from the welder jumps on you, you only have a 1-3 percent chance of surviving. I have heard of people dying by welding near a bit of water on the floor, etc...

As mentioned, Acetone does clean well and leaves no residue. However, it is also extremely flammable! So make sure your metal and everything around it is 100% dry before welding. You don't want to start welding and find out your Acetone can fell over and you're standing in a pool of it. Hope this helps! Safe and happy welding all :)

From acid etching I've seen on different electrodes, pull will give you slightly better penetration into the root of the join, but a little more convex weld profile. Push will get you adequate penetration, flatter weld face profile. Sometimes you have no choice in pushing or pulling in structural welding. You can pass x-ray or UT either way.
